Services Offered by CSC
The Career Services Center is here to help you gain understanding of your goals, your strengths, and your weaknesses to better prepare you for the professional world. By being proactive in using our services, you can:

  • Learn the techniques of writing a clear and effective cover letter.
  • Be familiar with the structure and format of a strong resume.
  • Improve your presentation skills to stand out as during an interview.
  • Know the Dos and Don’ts of interviewing, including proper etiquette and communication techniques.
  • Have access to a variety of additional personal and career resources.

Writing Skills

Students will receive training on how to write effectively by developing proper use of English grammar through vocabulary, sentence structure, presentation, essay organization, formal vs. informal writing, and APA structure for writing standards.

Oral Communication

Oral communication skills are imperative to succeeding in interviews, presentations, and networking events, among others. Students will learn how to communicate clearly and professionally by practicing the following: pronunciations and enunciations, overcoming anxiety, proper stance and body language, making eye contact, giving presentations.

Resume Building and Review

Students are encouraged to bring their resumes for review and tips on how to tailor their objective, skills, and experience to their career goals and job opportunities. Formatting techniques, word usage, and reference listing will be discussed.

Cover Letter Preparation

Students will receive assistance in developing a cover letter to accompany their resumes, when applicable, including the format and other requirements.

Phone Interview Skills

CSC sessions will include the dos and don’ts of a telephone interview, including responding to and formulating questions.

Mock Interviews

One-on-one mock interviews with a career counselor will give students the opportunity to practice responding to questions typically asked by employers, as well as hone their language and presentation skills, interview etiquette, and ability to ask relevant questions at the end. Feedback will be provided at the end that will include coaching on areas of concern and needed improvement.

Job Placement

Students will be provided job listings that will be continually updated with current opportunities. The contact pool will consist of consultancies, employment agencies, seminars, entrepreneur projects and organizations. CSC staff will assist students with applying to a job through the contact pool.
